There are several projects going on regarding the Landscapelab. The overall aim of all those projects is to gain a deeper understanding in hydrological processes.

 

Lake Mondsee Phosphorus Emissions, Koppl

The lake Mondsee is struggling with a rather high amount of total phosphorus in its water.  Too much phosphorus in the water can have a negative impact on the water quality and can also lead to eutrophication. By using the sensors of the Landscapelab, it is tried to comprehend, how, when and where the phosphorus emissions are being transported into the lake. Once it is known, where and when most of the phosphorus is being transported into lake Mondsee, decisions can be made to prevent further pollution of the lake.

Lake Gossenköllesee, Tyrol

The landscapelab and the University of Innsbruck share similar interest in hydrological data in Austria. Therefore, a collaboration finds place at lake Gossenköllesee in Tyrol, where also a weather station was mounted. The lake is part of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, established in 1977.

3D Electrical Resistivity Tomography, Koppl

Heavy rainfall events on water saturated soils activated springs and lead to high surface runoff on a slope in Koppl, Austria. To understand water flows in space and time, we investigated the near surface underground with Electrical resistivity tomography (ERT). The objective of the study is to generate a 3D near-subsurface model with focus on hydrogeological mechanisms of the slope.

Project ThermoMap

ThermoMap estimates the very Shallow Geothermal Potential (vSGP) in terms of Heat conductivity of unconsolidated underground up to 10m depth. The aim of the ThermoMap project is to create pan-European geothermal potential maps as a supportive planning tool for geothermal installations up to 10m depth, in order to facilitate finding favourable areas for very shallow geothermal exploitation.
